The Office of School Health and Wellness Initiatives works to empower Maricopa County schools to ensure a healthy environment for both students and school staff. The Healthy Schools Network was designed to help schools create, improve, or better sustain environments where students, especially those in greatest need, can learn and flourish.
Each participating school successfully completes a two year program that identifies 5 priority actions to address environmental concerns affecting the health and well-being of the school:
Identifying strengths and weaknesses of school wellness policies and programs for promoting health and safety
Coordinating a sustainable School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
Developing an Action Plan to catalyze change
Implementing a School Health Improvement Plan (SHIP)
