Quiñonez is the director of educational outreach and partnerships at Arizona State University. He’s also a published playwright and a member of the board for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Arizona.
District 27 covers much of downtown Phoenix then runs west to 115th Avenue and south to the Pinal County line. It’s part of Supervisorial District 5, represented by Supervisor Steve Gallardo.
As required by law, the Board selected Quiñonez from a list of three candidates submitted by the Legislative District 27 Precinct Committeemen (PC). The candidates had to live in the district and be a member of the same party as the person who vacated the office. In this case, a Democrat.
“I would like to thank the PC’s from District 27 for their diligent work in selecting three highly qualified candidates for our consideration,” said Supervisor Gallardo. “This wasn’t an easy decision, but I am confident that Marcelino will work hard to serve his district and will be a great voice for his constituents.”
Quiñonez will serve through 2022. The next election for seats in the Arizona House will be the 2022 primary.
