Today the Maricopa County Stadium District (MCSD) Board of Directors approved a contract that paves the way for $3.75 million of additional improvements to Chase Field. The work will take place during the 2017-2018 off-season.

“Right now, I think most people in the community want the playoffs at Chase Field to be the focus,” said Denny Barney, Chairman of the MCSD Board of Directors. “What today’s vote does is reinforce the county’s commitment to handling our responsibilities as owners of the stadium so fans are safe and the team can concentrate on winning baseball games.”

The contract approved by the Board covers steel and concrete repair work. This work is in line with MCSD’s long-term, systematic approach of assessing and addressing needed capital repairs at Chase Field.

“We have always supported the team, even when we’ve had disagreements,” said Daren Frank, Executive Director of the MCSD. “To date, the Stadium District has invested more than $46 million on repairs and upgrades to Chase Field. The Diamondbacks agreed, as they have in the past, that the repairs approved by the Board today should be priorities.”

No taxpayer money is used in funding stadium maintenance.

“This is an exciting time for our community,” Barney said. “We wish the Diamondbacks success in the playoffs and we hope the fans enjoy their time at Chase Field.”
